How much pulled pork per person: trays, buns and a guest-count chart

Our BBQ Pulled Pork tray is $95 and serves 20, so plan one tray per 20 guests. For 100 guests that is 5 trays, $475, plus buns at $12 a tray of 24.

For how much pulled pork per person, plan one tray of BBQ Pulled Pork for every 20 guests. A tray is $95 and serves 20, so the meat costs $4.75 a guest. Round up to the next full tray, and add one more if the pork is your only meat or your crowd is big eaters. We sell by the tray, not by the pound, so everything below is by headcount.

Pulled pork by guest count

Each line is trays, then cost at $95 a tray before 9.25% sales tax.

  • 20 guests: 1 tray, $95
  • 30 guests: 2 trays, $190
  • 40 guests: 2 trays, $190
  • 50 guests: 3 trays, $285
  • 60 guests: 3 trays, $285
  • 80 guests: 4 trays, $380
  • 100 guests: 5 trays, $475

Thirty and fifty are the awkward counts. At 30, two trays gives you room for seconds. At 50, three trays is the safe call, since two trays serve 40.

Buns are separate

Slider Sandwich Buns are $12 a tray of 24. Plan one bun per sandwich, then round up to the next tray.

  • 100 guests at one sandwich each: 5 bun trays, 120 buns, $60.
  • 100 guests at two sandwiches each: 9 bun trays, 216 buns, $108.

So 100 guests with pork and one bun each is $475 + $60 = $535 before tax. If the pork is for a plate with sides, you may not need buns at all, and the hot buffet version of our pulled pork lists sandwich buns as its bread option.

When to order more

Add a tray when:

  • Pulled pork is the only meat on the table.
  • The party runs past two hours and people come back for seconds.
  • Your guests are teenagers or a work crew coming off a shift.
  • Few other dishes compete for plate space.

Take a tray away when you have a second meat, such as Beef Brisket at $80 a tray, and plenty of sides. Mixed meat tables usually run lighter on each one.

Sides to fill the plate

Three sides cover most tables: Potato Salad, $49, BBQ Baked Beans, $49, and Creamy Cole Slaw, $55. Buy the same number of side trays as pork trays and you will land close. The 60-guest cookout in our BBQ catering guide shows the complete bill, and sliders in a bigger spread are in pulled pork sliders for a crowd.

Keeping it hot

Pulled pork is a hot tray. A chafing dish set is $17 per hot dish and is yours to keep, or a stainless steel one is $20 and returned after the event. Pick-up is at our kitchen in Yorkville, and delivery is quoted when you order.
