Funeral luncheon catering, one less thing to arrange

A funeral luncheon should be easy to arrange and comforting to eat. We cook it, bring it to the church hall, the funeral home or your house, and set it out. One call does it, and we can often help on short notice.

What a funeral luncheon costs

Most families choose a hot buffet. Buffet Menu 1 is $18.99 per person and includes two entrées, three sides and bread, with a 20-guest minimum. Buffet Menu 2 is $19.99 and Buffet Menu 3 is $20.99. Plates, napkins and silverware are $1.50 per person. A chafing dish that keeps each hot dish warm is $17. Delivery starts at $40 and sales tax is 9.25%.

For a smaller group, or a lighter lunch after the service, trays work well. They are priced per tray, most serve about 20, and you can pick them up in Yorkville or have them delivered.

Sample menu: hot buffet for 50

Food: 50 x $18.99 = $949.50. Plates, napkins and silverware: 50 x $1.50 = $75. Four chafing dishes: $68. Subtotal $1,092.50, about $21.85 a person. Delivery (from $40) and 9.25% sales tax are extra.

Sample menu: cold luncheon trays for 40

Trays: $503, about $12.58 a person for 40. Coffee, 50 servings with cups, sugar and creamer, is $89 more. Plates, napkins and silverware are $1.50 per person. Delivery and tax are extra.

How it works

1. Call or text (630) 553-9533, or ask for a quote (see get a quote). Tell us the date, the time the service ends, the address and a rough headcount. If you do not know the number yet, that is fine. Give us a range.

2. We suggest a menu that fits the group and the room. If you would rather just say "the usual" and let us choose, we will.

3. You accept the quote and pay a 25% deposit. Ask us about the balance on short-notice orders.

4. Our driver brings the food at the time you set, lays out the buffet with serving utensils, and leaves you to be with your family. If you want a server to tend the buffet and clear up afterwards, that is $35 an hour with a four-hour minimum, and a 20% service charge applies to staffed events.

Drop-off orders normally need three days' notice. Funerals rarely give you three days. Call us. We can often help with short notice.

Where we set up

A church hall, a funeral home's reception room, a banquet room, a park pavilion or your own kitchen table. Our kitchen is in downtown Yorkville, and we deliver to Oswego, Plano, Montgomery, Sugar Grove, Aurora, Plainfield, Naperville and the towns between. Each town page shows its delivery fee.

Food that travels well and feeds a crowd

The dishes families ask for most are the ones that hold warm on a buffet and please everyone: Baked Mostaccioli, Herb Roasted Chicken, Pan Fried Chicken, Baked Ham with Honey Mustard Glaze, Mashed Potatoes and green beans. Meatless Mostaccioli covers vegetarian guests. Tell us about gluten-free, halal or allergy needs and the kitchen prepares those plates separately.

For funeral directors

If a family asks you who to call, we are glad to be on your list. We deliver to the time you give us, bring our own serving equipment, and leave the chafers with you, since they are yours to keep. Call (630) 553-9533 and ask for the owner.

What our clients say

“My wife and I had Upper Crust for our wedding. They did an absolutely fantastic job! Extremely professional, great communication, fantastic food, great service, and they are very willing to do the little details if needed (flexible!). They made us feel less stressed, we could trust them, and we feel like we received great value for the price we paid. I would recommend this caterer to anyone!!”

“We had some catering done by Upper Crust for our son's high school graduation. We had used them previously for a wedding reception as well. The food is always excellent and there were so many people who said how good it was. I have always been impressed with this company. They are kind and courteous and will always answer all your questions. Great job!!!”
