By the Upper Crust Catering kitchen

To build your own sandwich bar, you need four things: bread, meat and cheese, sides, and toppings. From our kitchen, that is Fresh Baked French Rolls at $11.99 a dozen, a Deli Platter at $95, an Assorted Cheese Tray with Crackers at $69, and a side or two. You supply the condiments and fresh toppings. The result suits team lunches, showers, and parties where guests like to choose.
What a bar needs
- Bread. Rolls are the base. Fresh Baked French Rolls come 12 to a dozen.
- Meat and cheese. The Deli Platter and the Assorted Cheese Tray.
- Sides. One creamy, one fresh.
- Toppings and condiments. Lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, mustard, mayonnaise. These are not on our menu, so pick them up at the store.
- Something sweet. Cookies or brownies, so the bar ends well.
A bar for 24 guests
We plan about 1 to 1½ sandwiches a guest at a sandwich bar when there are sides. For 24 guests that is 24 to 36 rolls, or 2 to 3 dozen.
- 3 dozen Fresh Baked French Rolls, $11.99 each: $35.97
- 1 Assorted Cheese Tray, 60 pieces, $69
- 1 Deli Platter, $95
- 1 Potato Salad, $49
- 1 Fresh Vegetable Crudités, $59, serves 25 to 30
- 1 Assorted Home Baked Cookies, 40 count, $45
That adds up to $35.97 + $69 + $95 + $49 + $59 + $45 = $352.97 before tax, or about $14.71 a guest. Add 9.25% sales tax. The Deli Platter is not sized in pieces on our menu. Tell us the headcount when you order, and we will say whether one platter is enough for 24 or you need a second. If you do need a second, add $95 to the total.
The cheese tray is sized at 60 pieces and the crudités serve 25 to 30, so both stretch to this group.
A pulled pork variation
A hot sandwich bar is easier to size. BBQ Pulled Pork is $95 and serves 20. Slider Sandwich Buns are $12 for 24. One of each is $107 for 20 guests, and a second set for 40 is $214. Add a chafing dish at $17 to keep the pork hot. Our pulled pork guide has the full sizes.
Setting up the bar
- Line it up in order. Rolls first, then meat, then cheese, then toppings, then sides, so the line moves.
- Use tong Serving Tongs & Spoo are $1 each. Get one for each platter.
- Keep cold things cold. The meat, cheese and salads should stay in a fridge or cooler until you set them out.
- Label the cards. A small card for each item helps guests with allergies. Our kitchen handles wheat, dairy, eggs, soy, nuts, fish and shellfish, so we cannot guarantee any dish is free of trace amounts.
- Plates. Plates, napkins and silverware are $1.50 a person, so $36 for 24.
If you would rather skip the building
For a ready-made option, a Sandwich Platter is $79. Boxed lunches start at $14.50 each with a 20-box minimum; see the boxed lunches page. For deli sandwiches in particular, read ham sandwich platters and boxed lunches.
