Sandwich catering: how to order sandwiches for a group
Sandwich catering from Upper Crust runs from a $79 Sandwich Platter to boxed lunches at $14.50 each. How to pick between platters, finger sandwiches and boxes.
By the Upper Crust Catering kitchen

For sandwich catering, you have four choices at Upper Crust: a Sandwich Platter at $79, a Deli Platter at $95, 60-piece trays of finger sandwiches or pinwheels, or individual boxed lunches from $14.50 each. Platters suit a group that serves itself. Boxed lunches suit a meeting where everyone wants their own meal and nobody wants to stand in line. Pick up at the kitchen in Yorkville, or ask for quoted delivery.
The four formats
- Sandwich Platter, $79 a tray. Good for a casual lunch where people take what they like.
- Deli Platter, $95 a tray. The larger-ticket option for a deli-style spread.
- Assorted Finger Sandwiches, $89 for 60 pieces, and Pinwheel Sandwiches, $79 for 60 pieces. Small, easy to eat standing up.
- Boxed lunches, one per person, from the boxed lunch menu. Each is boxed on a fresh baked French roll, with a minimum of 20 boxes.
Platters and trays have no minimum. When you call, tell us your headcount and we say how many platters that is, since the number of people each platter feeds depends on the headcount and what else is on the table.
Boxed lunch prices
- Basic Boxed Lunch, $14.50 each.
- Executive Boxed Lunch, $16.50 each.
- Executive Chef's Chopped Salad, $17.50 each, and gluten-free.
For 20 people that is 20 x $14.50 = $290 for basic boxes or 20 x $16.50 = $330 for executive boxes, plus 9.25% sales tax. One person who does not want a sandwich can have the chopped salad box, so you can mix types in the same order.
How many finger sandwiches
We plan about 3 pieces a person when sandwiches are a snack or part of a bigger spread. At that rate one 60-piece tray covers 20 people, so 20 guests is $89 for finger sandwiches or $79 for pinwheels. For 40 guests, order two trays. Mixing one of each gives you variety: $89 + $79 = $168 for 120 pieces.
If the sandwiches are the whole meal, plan more, around 5 or 6 pieces a person, and add a salad or side. The Tossed Mixed Greens tray is $49, and a fruit display or dessert tray rounds it out. A Sandwich Platter with a $49 salad and a $59 Assorted Dessert Tray is a full lunch from three trays.
Platter or box?
Pick platters when:
- The group is under 20, since boxes start at 20.
- People are mingling, not sitting at desks.
- You want leftovers for the next day.
Pick boxes when:
- You need to handle dietary needs without a serving line.
- People eat at their own pace across a day of meetings.
- You want no cleanup beyond throwing the box away.
The office lunch breakdown compares boxes, trays and a buffet for 20 people. For a full corporate order, see our corporate lunches page.
