By the Upper Crust Catering kitchen

For gluten free party food that everyone eats, build the table from dishes that are gluten-free anyway, so nobody gets a separate plate. Our Chicken Oreganato is $80 a tray, serves 20 and is gluten-free. A full gluten free menu for 40 guests, from main to dessert, comes to $421 before tax, or about $10.53 a person.
What on our menu is gluten-free
These dishes are listed gluten-free on our menu:
- Chicken Oreganato, $80 a tray, serves 20
- Bacon Wrapped Dates, $74 a tray, 40 pieces
- Prosciutto Wrapped Asparagus Spears, $74 a tray, 60 pieces
- Jumbo Chilled Shrimp, $95 a tray, 60 pieces, also dairy-free
- Fresh Vegetable Crudités, $59 a tray, serves 25 to 30
- Seasonal Fresh Fruit Display, $74 a tray, also vegan
- Watermelon Wedge Platter, $59 a tray, 40 to 45 pieces, also vegan, seasonal
- Chocolate Covered Strawberries, $69 a tray, 35 to 40 count

On a buffet, the gluten-free entrées include Chicken Oreganato and Baked Salmon with Fresh Herb Sauce. Sides such as Mashed Potatoes and Wild Rice Blend are listed gluten-free too.
A gluten free menu for 40
- 2 trays Chicken Oreganato, $80 each: $160
- 2 trays Fresh Vegetable Crudités, $59 each: $118
- 1 Seasonal Fresh Fruit Display: $74
- 1 tray Chocolate Covered Strawberries: $69
Total: $160 + $118 + $74 + $69 = $421, or about $10.53 a person. Add 9.25% sales tax. The chicken is the main; the crudités, fruit and strawberries cover the sides and dessert. Add a hot appetizer first: one tray of Bacon Wrapped Dates is $74 and 40 pieces is one each for 40 guests.
If your gluten-free guests are a handful in a larger crowd, the opposite approach works too. Order your normal menu, then add one gluten-free main, like a single Chicken Oreganato tray at $80, and label it.
A few things to plan around
- Say it up front. Tell us how many guests are gluten-free and whether it is an allergy or a preference when you order. That lets us tell you which dishes are safest to put on the table.
- Watch the extras. Rolls, croutons, crackers and sauces are where gluten sneaks in. Ask us what comes with each dish.
- Trace amounts. Our kitchen handles wheat, dairy, eggs, soy, tree nuts, peanuts, fish, shellfish and sesame. We cannot guarantee any dish is free of trace amounts, so guests with celiac disease should talk to us first.
- Label the table. A small card on each dish saves guests from asking.

Questions
What party foods are naturally gluten free?
Meats, shrimp, cut vegetables, fruit, cheese and chocolate-dipped fruit. Bread, pasta, breaded dishes and most sauces are where gluten shows up.
Is the Cheese & Sausage Tray gluten-free?
It is listed as gluten-free on our menu. It comes with crackers, so ask us how to handle that for your guests.
Can you guarantee a dish is completely gluten-free?
No. We cook in a kitchen that also handles wheat, so we cannot guarantee against trace amounts.
