For a block party, feed the street with hand-held food, a few cold sides and a lot of drinks. A menu for 60 neighbors from our trays is $1,045 before tax, about $17.42 a person: two trays of BBQ Pulled Pork at $95, a tray of Pan Fried Chicken at $80, three sides, watermelon, desserts and tea. Trays are for pick-up in Yorkville, or we can quote delivery. Call (630) 553-9533.

What makes a block party different

You do not know how many people will come, they arrive and leave over hours, and there is no kitchen on the street. Kids and grandparents eat at the same table. So the food has to be easy to take, fine at room temperature, and available in more than one kind. Trays are a good fit because there is no minimum order. You can order for the people who said yes and add a tray before the three-day cut-off if more neighbors sign up.

A menu for 60

We plan about one main portion a guest and 2 trays of each side for a crowd of 60, since guests take a little of each. That is a planning guide, not a rule.

Total $1,045, or $17.42 a person. With 9.25% sales tax it is $1,141.66. The pork, chicken and beans are hot trays. A Chafing Dish Set is $17 per hot dish and yours to keep, so five hot trays are $85. Add Plates, Napkins & Silverware at $1.50 a person, $90 for 60.

Who pays

If every household chips in, divide the total by the number of guests. Sixty guests at $17.42 each comes to $1,045, and the chafing dishes and plates are extra. One person puts the order in with us and pays the 25% deposit to reserve the date, and the balance is due 7 days before the party after the final count. You can raise the count at any time before you pay the balance. After the deposit, it can drop by up to 10%.

Smaller or bigger

  • For 40: drop to one tray each of the chicken, watermelon and drinks, keep two trays of pork and the buns, and cut the sides to one tray of each of two kinds.
  • For 100: every tray serves about 20, so add a pork tray and a chicken tray for each 20 guests beyond 60, and a third tray of each side.

Keep it simple on the day

  • Keep potato salad, slaw and watermelon cold until you serve.
  • Put hot trays in the shade and cover them between rushes.
  • Set drinks away from the food line so it does not jam.
  • Put out serving spoons and tongs. Serving Tongs & Spoons are $1 each.

We do not provide tables, tents, trash cans or decorations. We bring the food, and we cover plates, napkins and silverware if you add them.
