The two trays

• Brownies: $59 a tray, 35 count, vegetarian.
• Pretzel Brownies: $69 a tray, 40 count, vegetarian.

The math: $59 divided by 35 is about $1.69. $69 divided by 40 is about $1.73. The pretzel tray costs $10 more and has five more pieces, so the price per piece is nearly the same. Pick the one you like.

How many trays for your guests

We plan 1 to 2 dessert pieces a guest when there is more than one sweet on the table. This is a planning guide.

• 20 guests: 1 tray of Brownies is 35 pieces, $59.
• 35 guests: 1 tray of Brownies, one each, $59.
• 50 guests: one tray of Brownies and one of Assorted Home Baked Cookies, $45, which is $59 + $45 = $104 for 75 pieces, 1½ a guest.
• 100 guests: Brownies, Pretzel Brownies, cookies and Lemon Bars, $59 + $69 + $45 + $59 = $232, 155 pieces, about 1½ a guest.

Add 9.25% sales tax. There is no minimum on dessert trays and no small-party surcharge.

Which one to pick

Plain Brownies suit kids' parties, office trays and any crowd that wants the familiar thing. Pretzel Brownies add a salty edge and suit adult parties, game days and anyone who finds plain brownies too sweet. If you cannot decide, order one of each for a party of 70 or more, which gives you 75 pieces for $128 before tax.
