How much food do you need for 50 people?

The rule of thumb our kitchen uses for buffets, trays and boxed lunches, so you order enough without paying for leftovers.

Fifty guests is the most common party size we cater in Yorkville, so here is exactly how we plan for it.

For a buffet, plan on two entrées, three sides and bread, at 6 to 8 ounces of protein per person. Our buffet packages already do that math: 50 guests on Menu 1 is $899.50 before add-ons, and every guest goes back for seconds.

For trays, one 20 to 25 serving tray feeds about 20 people as a snack or 12 as a meal. A shower for 50 usually takes two pinwheel trays, one fruit tray, one veggie tray, one cheese tray and three dozen chocolate strawberries.

For boxed lunches, order one per person plus two or three extras for the people who did not RSVP.

Drinks: one gallon of iced tea or lemonade serves 16. Three gallons cover 50 guests, plus a case of water.

If you are unsure, use the buffet builder on this site and put in your guest count. It shows the price per person and totals live, and you can ask us to adjust it before you pay a deposit.
